In GW2 you are able to buy Gems for items such as XP boosters, Karma boosters, Magic Find boosters, and Mystic Keys, and much more. It is something to look into. Here is the link to the wiki page that gives you everything you can buy from the merchants.

Gems can be purchased in various amounts (however, the cost per gem is always the same): So about 1.25 per 100 Gems.

Plus you can exchange in game currency for gems based on some model they have come up with which looks like supply/demand. So if a lot of players buy gems with in game currency, the price will go up. This is just pure speculation on my part but that's what it looks like to me.

Sorry but i have to disagree. That is not even remotely pay to win. No damage boosts, health or armor boosts. No enhancements that make your character perform better than a character that didnt purchase gems. Everything you listed simply saves time, but is completely obtainable without spending a penny. Not to mention the fact that you can use in game gold to purchase gems from other players

I have to agree with you. I myself will prob not get any of the boosters. You can also get them in game from the mystic chests. I was just putting the info out there. A few ppl i have talked to have said and i myself have also experenced that the quests that you do for your story dont match up with your levels to be able to do them. I found this to be true the first beta weekend, but was not really and issue in the finnal beta. I digress the point is you have the option to get them if you like.

Only thing i like to point out is if this even helped you in PvE it would be pointless for PvP or WvW since your bumped up to lv 80 anyways. Once you hit level 30 and get your elite trait then your ready to go full force into WvW. Thats just my point of view, ya you look awsome in PvE but once you hit WvW your like everyone else.
